of a First nation’s woman who has recently
been released from prison. Gail Maurice's
performance as Johnny carries the picture which moves back
and forth, from past to present, tracing her harsh but moving
story.”
- Marc Glassman for Classical 96.3 FM
“Crushed by a
system seemingly determined to incarcerate an entire Native
population, Johnny (played by the devastatingly beautiful
Gail Maurice) finds herself behind bars for seven years.”
- Outfest Film Festival
“Both in and out of prison, Johnny,
beautifully played by Gail Maurice, struggles with familial
love and obligation, romantic passion, and spiritual awareness.”
- Seattle Queer Film.com
“As Johnny, Gail Maurice exudes grace and courage as
a woman fighting to keep the world she created for herself.”
- San Francisco International 24th
Lesbian & Gay Film Festival
"Riveting performances by a strong cast, including Tantoo
Cardinal as Big Bear's companion, Running Second and Gail
Maurice as Nowakich, bring depth and authenticity to the legend
of this historic visionary."
